Metalworking Home

Welcome to my metalworking home page. I find working in the shop very rewarding, and relaxing. These pages are to share with my fellow home shop machinist. I hope you find something useful here.

I also have been collecting documentation on the Clausing Mills, and All American Die filing machines. If you have anything to add to these pages please let me know.

Check out my equiptment and projects tabs on the right of the page!
Equipment Stewardship:

I refer to all my equipment as my cast iron pets. I do not collect machines, instead I buy machines that I can use. I do have a machine or two that I only use once a year, but they are still useful to me. I have had a few people ask me why I do not restore my older machines. My answer to them is that they are restored to their factory functional state. They do not get new paint and have all their surfaces shined up. I prefer to spend my time building things with them. This is a personal preference, and does not reflect in anyway to the great care I give my pets.

Some people enjoy rebuilding and repainting their equipment, and I fully understand and support this. If I was retired and had more time, I would probably rebuild and repaint some of my machines. In the meantime I will keep them in tiptop running shape, and spend my time making chips.

In this trow-away society there is something to be said that separates the men from the boys. To be able to repair and build what you need when you need it is something that is disappearing in the country faster than I care to think about.
